Seeing McDavid anytime goal at +155 across most books for tonight's Battle of Alberta, but he's been ice cold lately - just 3 goals in his last 8 games after that hot November stretch. Shot attempts are still there (34 shots over the last 4 games) but nothing's finding the back of the net.

Flames goaltending has been solid too - Markstrom posting .924 save percentage over his last 6 starts. The +155 feels like it's pricing in the name value rather than current form.

Anyone else seeing value on the under here, or is this just classic McDavid due for regression to his career averages?

That +155 is a trap line if I've ever seen one. McDavid's shot selection has been garbage lately - taking low percentage attempts from bad angles instead of his usual high-danger chances. Flames have also tightened up their defensive structure since Huska made those system adjustments three weeks ago.

I'm actually leaning the other way on this one. McDavid's underlying numbers are still elite - he's generating 3.2 expected goals per game over that 8-game stretch, which means the goals should start coming. Regression to the mean is real, especially for a player of his caliber.

The Flames defense might look better on paper, but they're still giving up 2.8 goals per game at home this season. I grabbed McDavid anytime goal at Rabona earlier today when they had it at +148, and I'm comfortable with that number given his shot volume.

Sometimes the best bets are on elite players during cold streaks when the market overreacts to small sample sizes.

Had a similar situation back in '19 when I was tracking Crosby's goal props during a 7-game goalless streak. Everyone was fading him, lines kept getting juicier, and then he exploded for 4 goals in 3 games. Lost my shirt fading that regression.

Here's what I learned from that experience: elite scorers don't just forget how to score. McDavid's ice time is still 22+ minutes per game, he's still getting PP1 time, and his linemates haven't changed. The shot quality might be down slightly, but 34 shots in 4 games tells me the opportunities are there.

I'm not touching this prop either way though - Battle of Alberta games are always unpredictable, and both goalies tend to elevate their play in these rivalry matchups. Sometimes the smart play is no play, especially when you can't get a clear read on the situational factors.

That said, if you're dead set on action, I'd rather take McDavid over 0.5 assists at -140 than the goal prop. His playmaking hasn't dipped during this goal drought.

The shot attempt numbers are misleading when you break them down by game state. McDavid's been getting a lot of those shots during garbage time when the Oilers are already down 2-3 goals and the opposing team is playing more defensively. His 5v5 high-danger chances are actually down 18% from his season average.

I've been tracking this closely because I had a futures bet on McDavid to hit 65 goals this season. The eye test matches the advanced stats - he's forcing plays instead of letting the game come to him. When elite players press too hard, they often make worse decisions.

That +155 at Freshbet might look tempting, but I'm staying away. The Flames have done a good job clogging up the neutral zone lately, which limits McDavid's ability to build speed through the middle of the ice.

Everyone's overthinking this. McDavid scored 150 points last season - you don't just lose that ability overnight. The drought ends tonight.

Might be worth looking at the assists prop instead. Even when McDavid's not scoring, he's still creating chances for Draisaitl and the rest of that top line. Less variance than goal props too.

@calgarycrunch That 18% drop in 5v5 high-danger chances is the key stat everyone's missing. I've been tracking McDavid's shot quality by game situation for the past three weeks, and his expected goals per 60 minutes at even strength has fallen from 1.31 to 0.94 over this eight-game stretch.

The problem isn't just garbage time padding - it's that opposing teams are now sending their shutdown lines over the boards immediately when McDavid's line comes on. Calgary specifically has been running Backlund's line against Edmonton's top unit in 73% of their even-strength shifts this season. When you factor in that McDavid's shooting percentage typically regresses to around 12.8% over longer samples, the +155 on anytime goal actually represents negative expected value.

@winnipegjesse has the right read - the assist prop at -110 offers much better value given McDavid's 67% assist rate on Draisaitl goals this season.

@calgarycardcounter That 0.94 expected goals per 60 at even strength tells the whole story right there. The books are still pricing McDavid like he's getting those premium looks from October, but the reality is Calgary's been clogging up the neutral zone and forcing Edmonton into perimeter shots all season.

I've been hammering the under on McDavid goals for three straight games now because that +155 is still inflated. When a guy's xG drops 28% over eight games, you don't bet the goal prop at plus money - you fade it hard until the line catches up to what's actually happening on the ice.

That 0.94 expected goals per 60 is brutal but here's the thing - Calgary's neutral zone trap only works when they're not chasing the game. If Edmonton jumps out early, those same clogging tactics become a liability and McDavid gets those high-danger looks back.

I've been watching how BetOnline adjusts their live props once the Flames fall behind by two - McDavid's anytime goal jumps from +155 to +110 within minutes because their system knows Calgary has to open up.

@halifaxhustler BetOnline's live adjustment patterns are solid but you're missing the key metric here. McDavid's even-strength ice time has dropped from 14:47 per game to 12:23 over this eight-game slide. When Edmonton's chasing, Woodcroft's been shortening the bench and loading up Draisaitl's line instead.

The +155 is pricing McDavid like he's still getting those 15+ minutes at even strength, but Calgary's neutral zone trap forces Edmonton into special teams situations where McDavid's deployment becomes predictable. I tracked his shot attempts by zone entry type - only 31% are off controlled entries in the last four games vs Calgary's system.

That 12:23 even-strength ice time drop is the real tell here. I tracked McDavid's usage patterns through Edmonton's November slide last season and saw the exact same pattern - when the Oilers fall behind early, Woodcroft shortens his bench and McDavid ends up getting more defensive zone starts just to stabilize things.

The +155 line feels like the books haven't adjusted for this usage shift yet. I've been comparing the anytime goal props on Tenobet versus the mainstream books and they're still hanging around +150 to +165 across the board, but none of them seem to factor in that McDavid's averaging 2.3 fewer offensive zone faceoffs per game during this eight-game stretch.

Calgary's neutral zone trap works because they force those perimeter shots early, Edmonton chases, and suddenly McDavid's playing more two-way hockey than pure offense. The ice time tells the story better than the goal totals.

That 12:23 even-strength ice time tells me everything I need to know about this bet. I've been tracking McDavid's goal patterns obsessively since October and there's a clear correlation - when his ES time drops below 13 minutes, he's only hit anytime goals in 2 of his last 11 games. The universe is basically screaming fade this prop.

What's really spooking me is McDavid hasn't scored against Calgary in his last 4 meetings, dating back to March 2023. That's not variance anymore, that's a legitimate pattern. The Flames have figured out how to neutralize him in their building and Woodcroft's shortened bench usage just makes it worse.

That 12:23 even-strength number from @maritimemaverick is the smoking gun everyone's ignoring. I ran McDavid's goal conversion rates by ES ice time brackets over the past two seasons and the drop-off below 13 minutes is brutal - he's converting at just 11.4% versus his season average of 18.7%.

The real kicker? Calgary's defensive zone coverage has been suffocating opposing top lines to 0.87 goals per 60 minutes of ES time over their last six games. When you factor McDavid's reduced deployment against Tanev-Andersson pairing that's been shutting down elite forwards, +155 looks like a sucker bet.
